How it works
Booking flow
How does Mexicaning work?
The homepage shows every Mexico City experience we curate. You can search ("balloon", "lucha", "frida"), filter by category, or scroll. Click any card to open its product page. On that page you pick a date and party size. The button at the bottom takes you to the booking partner (Viator) for live availability, final pricing, and payment, or to WhatsApp for our own concierge routes.
Why does some experiences send me to Viator?
Mexicaning is a Viator affiliate. We curate Mexico City inventory and present it on our pages, but Viator handles live availability, final pricing, payment, and the e-voucher. We may earn a commission from confirmed bookings on Viator.
What is a "Mexicaning route" (MX-*)?
Six routes are run by Mexicaning directly — Lucha Libre Night, Teotihuacán Balloon Sunrise, Xochimilco + Coyoacán, Mexico City Food Tour, Frida + Anahuacalli, Historic Center Walk. They are confirmed on WhatsApp by our team rather than through Viator. We are always available — pick any date and we will lock the time with you.
Do I need to use WhatsApp?
For Viator-affiliate experiences, no — booking happens entirely on Viator. WhatsApp is required only for the six Mexicaning routes, and is optional everywhere else (use it if you want help choosing or have questions a real person can answer faster).
Money & cancellation
Pricing, refunds, fees
Is the price I see the final price?
The "From USD…" price on cards and product pages is indicative — sourced from Viator and refreshed hourly. Final per-person price (including taxes, fees, options) is calculated and shown on Viator at the booking step.
Cancellation policy?
Cancellation is the operator's responsibility, surfaced on Viator's product page when you continue. Many Mexico City operators offer free cancellation up to a window before the start time, but the exact window varies — read the policy on Viator before paying. For Mexicaning routes (MX-*), we work to your timing on WhatsApp.
Where is payment handled?
Payment is handled on Viator's site for affiliate experiences. Mexicaning never takes payment cards on this site. For the six Mexicaning routes, payment terms are confirmed on WhatsApp.
Are taxes and fees included?
Yes — Viator's "From" price includes taxes and platform fees. Optional add-ons (extra meals, hotel pickup beyond zone, group upgrades) can appear on Viator's booking step before you confirm.
Tipping?
Customary in Mexico City for guided experiences. Typical 10–15% of the tour price for a good guide, or MX$100–200 per traveler for a half-day tour. Bring small bills.
Operators & languages
Who runs the tours
Who actually runs the tour on the day?
Independent local operators in Mexico City. Mexicaning curates and recommends. For Viator-affiliate inventory the operator is the seller of record on Viator's platform; for the six Mexicaning routes the operator is Mexicaning.
Are guides bilingual?
Most experiences run in English and Spanish. A few also offer French, Portuguese, or Mandarin guides on request. Confirm the language on Viator's product page or ask us on WhatsApp.
Private or group?
Both. Each experience is labelled — "Private", "Small group", or "Open group". Lucha Libre and Xochimilco are usually shared groups by design; balloon, Frida private days, and many day trips are often private with a driver.
Hotel pickup?
Pickup terms are operator-specific and shown on Viator's product page. Most operators include pickup from central neighborhoods (Roma, Condesa, Centro, Polanco, Reforma, Juárez). Walking tours typically meet at a clear landmark.

The human layer
What can WhatsApp do for me?
Choosing between similar experiences. Coordinating multiple days. Custom CDMX days that aren't on the shelf. Group sizes and dietary needs. Anything that benefits from a quick human reply rather than reading more pages.
Reply time?
Most messages reply within a few hours during the day in Mexico City (UTC-6). Mark urgent same-day questions in the message — we prioritise time-sensitive requests.
Can I customize a published Viator experience?
Sometimes. Small changes (start time, language, dietary) are usually fine — the operator decides. Larger changes (different itinerary, different region, different group size) make more sense as a Mexicaning route, which we plan over WhatsApp.
CDMX practicalities
Safety, altitude, weather
Is Mexico City safe?
Yes for the neighborhoods our experiences cover (Centro Histórico, Roma, Condesa, Coyoacán, Polanco, Xochimilco, Teotihuacán). Standard travel sense applies — keep phone in front pocket on Metro, use Uber/registered taxi after dark, don't flash large amounts of cash. Guides know which streets to avoid and when.
Altitude?
Mexico City sits at 2,240 m / 7,350 ft. Day 1 you may feel slightly tired or short of breath if you came from sea level. Drink water, ease into walking pace, skip alcohol the first evening. Teotihuacán is similar altitude; balloon flights ascend further but altitude is rarely felt in a basket.
Weather?
Mild year-round — daytime 18–25°C / 64–77°F. Rainy season June–September with afternoon storms (carry a light layer). December–February evenings drop to 5–10°C / 41–50°F. Sunscreen all year — elevation makes UV stronger than the temperature suggests. Balloon flights are weather-dependent; the operator may reschedule or refund if conditions don't hold.
What's typically included?
Bilingual guide, all entry tickets where mentioned, transport between sites where applicable. Lunch is sometimes included (always shown on the experience page). Snacks, optional drinks, and tips are usually not.
Disclosures
Affiliate & data
Is Mexicaning a tour operator or a reseller?
Both, for different items. The six Mexicaning routes (MX-*) are operated by Mexicaning. The other 92 experiences shown are sold and operated through Viator and its independent local operators; Mexicaning curates and recommends, and may earn a commission from confirmed bookings on Viator.
What data does Mexicaning collect?
We don't take payment on this site. The optional WhatsApp contact field on a product page is stored only in your own browser (local storage) so we can pre-fill the WhatsApp message — it isn't sent to Viator. See Privacy for details.
Why are reviews not shown in detail?
Per Viator's affiliate guidelines, review text is not republished on partner sites and is not indexed. Star ratings shown on cards are sourced from Tripadvisor and labelled accordingly.
